Names Changes, etc., etc.... and of course, etc.

The Center for Off World Studies and Culture is now Off World University and Convention Center. The name has changed but the mission remains the same and that is to develop and exhibit trends and articles that are unique to Off World. By combining the facilities, Off World has a great venue for gatherings as well as a showcase of its specialties. All three buildings are nearing completion with the auditorium and exhibition halls scheduled for grand opening around February 3rd. The exhibition halls will be each named for a past or present AW citizen who has indirectly contributed to the development of Off World through their own talents, time and efforts in expanding the virtual knowledge universe. Suggestions for honorary names for both halls may be grammed to Redoubt.

Visitors will notice that street signs are now a regular feature in Off World. I would like to mention that the road running North from the Sci Fi Museum, alongside the Colonial Clipper and Off World Transport terminals, has been named in honor of an old friend, Energiser. It is my profound wish that she someday returns to visit our world-within-a-world and allow me to thank her for all the time and patience she showed me as a newbie.

Communications and Teleportation Update

Dr. Dreamer2 has designed a booth that will link to the coordinates website for teleportation from any point of Off World and beyond. This device will open up the remote areas of the world for further exploration. She has also retooled the teleport stations to 80 pictorial links that will be constructed near the largest inhabited areas for quick travel.

Northern Power Increased

The acid containment and power storage center for the north area was completed today. This center will double the power sources located in the north. This was necessary as the shipyard is ready to open as well as the hydroponics center. The blueprints call for a booster section to be added further north as more structures are placed.

East Sector Updates

Spread upon the desolate landscape that came before it, Off World continues to grow. It’s amazing really because there are so many reasons why it shouldn’t work. So many things shouldn’t even be possible yet, here in this place, they thrive.

*************

New arrivals and other stuff:

Growing out of the ground in the Eastern sector is the Backflow Bottoms Shopping Center with initial tenants including Papa’s John Pizza and Rent-A-Bot. This is a welcome addition to an area that has missed a lot of development because of the Tram System cutting a swath across the neighborhood. Also just opened is the Suds & Shells, a 24-hour oyster bar in Paradise City. Along just North of GZ and next to the Critter is a soon-to-be-opening Center for Off World Studies and Culture… which will eventually include a theater/lecture hall on the upper floors of the main building and two exhibition halls with laboratories just across the street to the East. The Foryoma automated car plant will be getting its long-awaited executive office park sometime around the first of February which will also be the first steps in opening the Southeastern quad for expansion. Included in this growth will be the new, New Empire video studios and main offices. The old studios will be demolished along with the old downtown complex. There are no current plans for the property located at either location but the main office complex currently sits in the mid-town area and could be replaced, or re-occupied, by the Off World Tram System… which has no centralized control center at this time. Finally, ( and speaking of control) the Off World Space Port will be getting a control tower soon... that is tentatively planned to be located just East of the Colonial Clipper hanger.

Hydroponics Ship Arrives in Off World

Lensman took delivery of the hydroponics ship and began setting the system up. The ship was designed by Lensman and should provide all the needed material for the next several years in Off World. It is the hope that one day the plant materials generated by the ship will be used to add to the terrain once the atmostphere is restored. Redoubt and his engineer staff do not believe that the atmosphere can ever be restored and efforts should be used in orther areas until such time assets can be dedicated to the project.

The Off World Story

Years into the future an inhabited planet was bombarded with radiation as a red dwarf shifted its orbit and left the planets to die. Off World's atmosphere was destroyed by the change, and all the native creatures became extinct. The galaxy government decided to send in a team to occupy the planet because of it invaluable position for the military. A team was formed, Commander tunablues was the first assigned and would be in charge of acquiring proper terrain and setting up the local forces, Commander Redoubt was assigned as head engineer, and Doctor Dreamer2 was assigned to setup up teleports and handle all communications.
The team arrived on the planet 10/29/04 to begin the operation. The directive was to setup a mining operation for water, minerals, and concentrated oxygen. The directive also included manufacturing facilities for mobile cars, planetary ships, and galactic cruisers with support systems. Commander tunablues was also directed to form a cargo infrastructure to move supplies throughout the galaxy.
Commander Redoubt commissioned Lt. Commander Lensman to construct the galactic port with a shipyard and to construct the hydroponics station. Commander tunablues commissioned interstellar engineer Pharadon to construct a probe system to gather data from the star system and to advance the communication programs.
